Advocates for New Performing Arts Centre Applaud Promising Council Support
Citizens for a New Performing Arts Centre (CN-PAC) is encouraged by a Community Task Force recommendation that City Council pursue the creation of a substantial new performing arts venue in Kelowna, and argues that a world-class centre must be located in the heart of Kelowna’s cultural district.
“We applaud the task force for recognizing the economic and social benefits that an iconic new performing arts space would bring to our community,” said CN-PAC president Myles Bruckal, adding that a strategic location must now be identified for such a vital addition to Kelowna’s public infrastructure.
“A new centre must be exceptional and it must be situated in a central location that truly does it justice,” Bruckal said.
In a report submitted to Council on Dec. 9, the Community Task Force on the Performing Arts noted that creating “opportunities for additional performances would have a positive economic, cultural and social impact on our community.”
“Without additional performance venues, the arts community will face significant limitations on future growth,” concluded the 10-member task force, established and chaired by Mayor Tom Dyas.
The CN-PAC looks forward to hearing the timelines, milestones and implementation process that will move a new Performing Arts Center forward.
CN-PAC, a non-profit advocacy group, has spent nearly four years raising public support for an iconic new performing arts centre appropriate for the region’s dynamic growth. The all-volunteer group called for the creation of a task force to advance this project, and will continue to support the endeavour as it progresses.
